This research aims to describe the development and implementation of a picture storybook learning media themed "The Dove and the Ant" in Indonesian language learning for second-grade students under the Merdeka Curriculum. This media was developed based on the principles of the independent curriculum, emphasizing active, creative, and student-centered learning to enhance students' comprehension of stories, develop language skills, and instill moral values. The story "The Dove and the Ant" was chosen for its simplicity and moral message, suitable for the comprehension level of second-grade students.
The development of this media involved several stages: selecting a short, simple, and relevant story; creating or selecting engaging illustrations that support the storyline; systematically arranging the picture storybook; and designing learning activities that stimulate discussion and student creativity. Illustrations can be pre-made or created by the students themselves, allowing for active participation in the learning process. Learning activities are designed to engage students in critical thinking through questions that encourage discussion and analysis of the story.
The implementation of the picture storybook media in second-grade Indonesian language learning under the Merdeka Curriculum focuses on three main aspects: firstly, improving students' comprehension of the story, vocabulary, and sentence structure; secondly, conveying moral values such as kindness, mutual help, and empathy through the story of the dove and the ant; and thirdly, encouraging student creativity through various creative activities such as rewriting the story, creating dialogues, and drawing. The teaching method employed emphasizes the active participation of students in the learning process and guidance from the teacher.
